Cathedral
A single frame from the California Wilderness Collection.
A sky held by ancient giantsSunlight breaks through the redwoods in the Avenue of the Giants, the trunks rising straight up out of frame like columns.
I shot this on June 29, 2024, on a trip with my family to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. I take a lot of photos of redwoods, but no photo ever comes close to the awe I actually feel standing under them.
Coast redwoods are the tallest trees on Earth, some over 360 feet, and can live more than 2,000 years. The Avenue of the Giants runs through Humboldt Redwoods State Park, home to the largest remaining old-growth coast redwood forest left in the world.
