My Story

I'm Alan, a San Francisco–based photographer.

I've had a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember.

In the beginning, it was about capturing what was in front of me, friends, movement, moments that felt important without needing a reason.

Over time, that instinct turned into something more.

Light started to matter. Timing started to matter. The difference between just taking a photo and actually seeing something became clear.

I grew up in the southern part of San Francisco, so the city's fog and its light aren't new to me. They're just home.

That same habit followed me out of the city too, into the redwoods, along the coast, and into the quieter parts of Northern California. It follows me when I travel too, wherever I end up.

The photos here are split into three collections: San Francisco, California Wilderness, and Elsewhere. Different places, same habit.

Now I spend my time chasing light across San Francisco and beyond, looking for scenes that feel as real as those early memories.

The only difference is, now I know what I'm looking for.
